Another conversation with David Hearn, an Employee from Royal dolls.

Hi Deanna;
There hasn't been any time for me to look at what you've discussed with David so my apologies if these questions have been covered already.
I've noticed a big difference in the faces of these dolls.
Is there any way of identifying a 14R doll by face to match it to a specific doll company like Royal?
Is there a hair material type, hair color or hair style specific to Royal dolls?

Anne Marie

Hi Deanna!
The variations on the 14 R doll were not very diffirent.  Also, the molder shipped what he had on hand. So an over run of parts from a previous order might be used up on the next order.  So a head used for Royal the week before might end up going out the door to someone else.  Only the exclusive molds and paint mask used by the big companies were some what consistence. If you look at Alexander's Cissy through the years the face will remain the same shape but the color and paint can vary slightly.  One year the dolls were more amber and then the Madame introduced her "porcelain look" dolls which were very pink and among the most beautiful of all her Cissy dolls.  Alexander ,Arenbee, Effanbee and Ideal dolls are more easy to identify once out of the box and with out tags since they controlled their molds and did not use stock molds and as a general rule marked their dolls with their name.    David
